About

Who are you and why do I care?

My name is Whitney, a wife, mom and former teacher. And though I'm glad you're here, only you know why you care. Maybe you're my mother, or a casual acquaintance, or a long-distance observer. Whoever you are, you're under no obligation to read this blog. It's important to spend your time wisely, you know. But by all means, take a gander!

Why do you blog?

I started blogging about ten years ago as a way of keeping my family posted on my study abroad to Paris. Since then, the old blog has morphed from a way to document travel to a journal of daily (mis)happenings, a long-neglected nothing, a space to experiment with writing, and back to the travel thing again.

As an English teacher I would tell my students that anyone can be a writer-- that developing writing skills is part of becoming a good all-around communicator. I would emphasize the importance of writing on the regular, even just for its physical and mental health benefits, and believed that as a teacher I needed to practice what I preached. Coming back and back and back to this blog means I haven't given up on that ideal, I suppose.

What's with the title?

So many times I've considered permanently retiring the blog. And yet, on somewhat of a whim, it insists on rebirth. I also appreciate learning and sharing about a variety of ideas and interests, and though my blog is "master of none," a Renaissance "[woman] can do all things if [she] will."
